Jessica Botham and Clayton win the National 4-year-old Championship Final
Saturday 07 August 2021
Kicking off in Championship Arena 2, the National 4-year-old Championship Final took place today at the British Showjumping National & Academy Championships 2021. This year’s Championship was judged by Laura Stockdale and Diane Pimblett.
The twenty-nin horses were initially ridden on the flat and then over a course of fences. A total of 20 combinations were called back for a second inspection and jumped over a further six obstacles.. After much deliberation the judges decided on a clear winner: Clayton ridden by Jessica Botham scoring 271 points, 9 clear of second placed Joe Trunkfield and Car-a-lago Z.
This is the 4th year in row that Jessica has taken this title. She said: “We bred him and have had him since a foal, we haven’t done that much with him but we always aimed for this class. He’s very straight, honest and scopey! The course flowed with nice distances, I knew I would be okay, but I wasn’t as prepared as usual after missing the course walk!” Clayton gets his namesake after being born the day of Jessica’s grandmother’s funeral, who was called Margaret Clayton.
Joe Trunkfield and Car-a-lago Z took second place, with Chloe Reynolds and Domination F Z taking third place.
