Drew Walton clinched victory in the Winter Six-year-old Championship with HorseDeals Prince Changes at the British Showjumping Spring Championships at Arena UK.
“I broke him in and it means so much to have a competitive horse in a class like this, to win is amazing and he deserved this win,” said Drew.
Ten of the 25 competitors jumped clear over course-designer Shaun Sands’ 11-fence track, with Keith Shore holding a long-time lead aboard Riaux D’Emeraud, but Drew had other ideas in the penultimate draw, wiping 0.32 seconds off the time in a deceptively fast round on the Conthargos x Echo Van’t Spieveld gelding HorseDeals Prince Changes.
“He’s a machine; the track was big enough and technical for six-year-olds but he jumped everything amazing, and I knew in the run down to the last I’d got it. He’s such a character on the yard, too, attention-seeking but just wants to love you,” said Drew, who hasn’t got any main plans for Prince Changes this year – “We’ll just keep doing what we’re doing. I’d love to qualify for Lanaken, but no pressure, we’ll take it all as it comes.”
Keith finished second on Riaux D’Emeraud and Demi Watson slipped Orlando Van De Noordheuvel into third.
